In recent years, StartART nurses have listened attentively to speakers presenting the benefits of NCC certification. Now is your opportunity to be one of the first to earn NCC's new multidisciplinary certification C-RHI. A certification created for health care professionals who provide education, counseling, support, and direct care to patients seeking assistance with reproductive health and infertility.
Re-launch of the NCC RHI Certification has been in process for many years and has involved the volunteer work of many individuals who recognize how much certification will mean to all of you, dedicated clinicians who work with patients every day to fulfill their dreams of creating their families. You are encouraged to register for the exam now and to share this opportunity with your colleagues.
US andCanadian nurses are eligible to take the exam to receive NCC RHI Certification. Great care has been taken to include only mainstream well-documented protocols with which practitioners from both countries should be familiar.
Introductory Phase: The psychometric analysis phase is a critical part of the exam development process. The more test-takers in the first two phases of the launch - the better, as this is when the statistical reviews will identify questions that need to be tweaked, rewritten or even removed.
Prep Course Development: NCC does not create preparatory courses. However, they will provide a link on their website to relevant resources that are designated as useful for exam preparation. However, ASRM Educational Staff members are developing a prep course for the exam. In addition, the StartART Congress Curriculum Committee plans to incorporate NCC exam prep topics into the REI 101 Course offered on Wednesday afternoon August 6 prior to the Welcome Reception and plenary sessions. This will provide interested nurses to focus on specific areas covered by the exam.
Cost: NCC considers this updated exam to be a "Subspecialty Exam" (the original REI Nursing exam was a "Core Exam"). This opens the eligibility field to include clinicians other than nurses. The cost for NCC subspecialty exams is US$210 and includes a nonrefundable US$50 application fee submission cost. We are hopeful that management of practices and fertility networks in the US and in Canada will subsidize these costs to help nurses and other RHI professionals reach their certification goals.
Application & Exam Timing: The application for the NCC RHI Certification exam is available starting February 1. The exam window will start on March 15 and will be open for 45 days for the first group (Introductory Test Phase). Since this is a new exam, testing must be done at a testing center. Proctored on-line testing will NOT be offered at this time. Locations for testing are found on the NCC website, under the "Certification Exams" tab. Assessment Centers are located throughout the US. After the 45 days there will be about 1 week with no testing and then a second form of the exam will be launched (Secondary Test Phase). In celebration of their 50th anniversary this year, NCC is offering "second chance free" for individuals taking a certification exam in 2025. The NCC RHI Certification exam is included in this promotion. Details are available on the NCC website.
Since the test questions and exam have no psychometric (statistical) history, results from all test-takers in the Introductory and the Secondary test phases will be analyzed for psychometric soundness and performance prior to scoring. Any question that does not meet the appropriate psychometric standards will be deleted from scoring and will not count toward or detract from an individual's score. This gives those who take the first test the advantage of the "benefit of the doubt" in determining pass/fail status. Scoring of the exam will not be available until after the psychometric/statistical review has been completed.
